Hello there, sassy ladies!
How are well all? Well, the run up to Christmas is well under way - the John Lewis advert has been released but is being panned for views by a lower budget, but much more sentimental, TV ad published by a bar in Northern Ireland. Who knew?
And, if you haven’t seen the Irish bar TV ad, here’s a sneak peak.
But, what I want to talk about in this issue of the newsletter, is just what a struggle mid-life can be. We’re the generation that’s called the “sandwich generation”, meaning that at one end, we’re pulled by our children, be they small or grown, and then at the other, we’re pulled by looking after elderly parents.
But, it’s not just our responsibilities that make life difficult. We’re negotiating these responsibilities whilst battling menopause symptoms, which can be crippling for some women. And trying to be the career woman we were brought up to be, if you started your career in the 80’s or 90’s.
Because we live a social media “perfect” world, everyone presents themselves as doing okay and living their best life, but often that is far from the truth. Women in mid-life struggle but carry on regardless, hoping they can continue to cope as so many people rely on them.
To illustrate this further, I found a brilliant article published by Oprah.com outlining the struggles that mid-life women experience. I think it’s a few years old now, but it cuts it brilliantly. It openly talks about how life is in your mid-years and some very real struggles for some women.
Here’s the article - hope it resonates with you :)
It’s lovely to see the readership of the newsletter grow gradually and readers remain loyal. I plan the issues around whatever I see in life that resonates with me and I hope what I cover speaks to you.
If you’d like to hear more and, more importantly, be around like-minded women online, then you should come over to join the 45 Not Out closed Facebook Group. It’s a safe space for women like us to chat and support each other. The membership stands at just under 220, but I’d love more fab women to join. If you love chatting and meeting like-minded women, then come on over and ask to join the group. You can do that here.
So that’s a wrap from me for another issue. I hope it resonated with you.
Wishing you a successful run up to the Christmas season.
I wish you well and see you soon,
Una x
