Hello, dear readers
I hope this edition of the newsletter finds you well and happy?
Well, we’re more than half way through 2025 - who would have known?? July creeped us on it didn’t it? And here in the UK, we can’t really complain about the weather can we? These days people are complaining about it being too hot - which we don’t have reason to do very often!
Anyhow - this edition of the newsletter is concerning my theme for July. And, strange though it might seem given we’re at the midpoint of 2025, I’ve chosen resilience as my theme.
Let me explain my thinking:
You’d have to have been living in a cave if you weren’t aware of the dire situation the UK (and possibly most of the world too) is in right now. From trawling online, I’ve seen that redundancies are at an all time high and the job market is dire. I’ve seen some good, good people that I know being “let go” and then really struggling to get their next role. If that doesn’t smack of “economic downturn” (and possibly on the brink of recession), then I don’t know what does. And as job opportunities disappear and the economy shrinks means that eventually, we will all be affected. Rising prices, lack of job opportunities, lower disposable incomes which in turn feeds a reducing economy - you get my drift…
So, for this reason, I think it’s very timely to look at resilience. We may need it, if you don’t already.
So what does that look like for women of our demographic?
This stage of life offers a unique opportunity to cultivate resilience—the inner strength to adapt, recover, and thrive despite life’s challenges. Resilience is not a fixed trait; it is a dynamic process we can nurture every day.
So, how we can build and sustain resilience through simple, science-backed hacks that empower us to meet life’s ups and downs with grace and grit.
Research shows that resilience in older women is strongly linked to factors such as strong social support, good mental health, and purposeful living1.
One powerful way to build resilience is by clarifying your purpose—knowing what truly matters to you helps you set boundaries and make decisions aligned with your values2. Writing a concise personal purpose statement can serve as a compass during uncertain times. This might seem a bit naff - writing a purpose statement for yourself - but it’s in the actual process of doing this is where the value is. It concentrates your brain to ask itself questions that you wouldn’t necessarily consider and to come up with a few solutions.
Equally important is owning your values—whether generosity, creativity, or simplicity—because living authentically fosters inner peace and strength2.
Another hack is connection. Studies highlight that investing in intimate relationships and community ties significantly boosts our ability to bounce back from adversity21.
Joining supportive groups, such as personal development or social groups, has been shown to enhance women’s mental health and resilience, even during major crises like the COVID-19 pandemic3. These groups provide a safe space to develop coping skills, share experiences, and rebuild confidence.
Remember, resilience is a lifelong journey, and by embracing these hacks, you are investing in your well-being and reclaiming your power.
For me, resilience is such an important trait that I’ve done something for myself to help, and I want to make this available to you fab ladies in the 45 Not Out community. Earlier this year, I recorded an audio webinar with a fab solutions focused hypnotherapist I know - Tania Beales of Holly Blue Hypnotherapy - on how to incorporate even more tips and hacks in how to improve your own resilience. And, speaking from experience, I’ve incorporated and tried these hacks, and they really do work.
During the recording, we talked about:
How to empty your "stress bucket"
What are the 4 main things that you need to monitor to keep stress at bay
How Tania used these solutions to fight back from a breakdown
As I said, the recording is one that I’ve bookmarked for me personally, and have kept coming back to to ensure I stay on track and am doing what I need to keep my personal resilience where it needs to be.
Because resilience is my theme for the month, I’m offering the recording with 10% off the published price (£19.99). All you need to do when you check out is to enter the code JULYDISCOUNT to obtain this 10% discount.

I hope it helps! Would love to hear your comments - just reply to this newsletter
So that’ll be a wrap from me.
Go forth and enjoy your July, make the most of any uplifting weather we might receive and build that resilience from within.
Take care
Until a fortnight’s time
