KEEPING OUR STREETS SAFE....
Hearing what's happening in Cheshire (and nationally) to reclaim our streets...
Dear lovely readers.
I hope this issue finds you well, and as I write this the sun is out and I’m sat typing this in a sleeveless T shirt. Dare I say Summer may be on it’s way….?
But, of course, it’s a Bank Holiday weekend this coming weekend, and we all know what that means! So, whatever you’re planning, I hope you get the chance to do what you planned and that at some point, the weather is kind. Well, we can hope can’t we?
In this issue, I want to talk about how safe you feel when you are walking in the streets where you live? Do you feel safe enough to walk in the streets at night in the place where you live?
The safety of women (and men too) in and around the streets, whether that’s in the middle of a big city or a small village, is something that’s hit the headlines over the last year or so. Even in this week alone, there’s been 3 stabbings of young people!
And, when this happens, it’s usually the police force of that area that is held to account.
So, knowing this is a topic that worries a high number of people, for our next Sassy Ladies event, working in conjunction with Kate Blakemore we’ve arranged that to be next subject we cover.
We’re delighted to have as our guest at our next event we’ve got Superintendent Claire Jesson of Cheshire Constabulary to speak to us. Claire is passionate about making Cheshire a Safe Space for all, but particularly for women. She also leads on the Cheshire Police Safer Streets Campaign.
Claire will also join us to talk openly and honestly about her career with the police force and how she has successfully succeeded in the force.
It set to be a fantastic evening and if you’d like to be there, it’s held on Thursday 9th May at 7.00pm at the Bottle Bank bar on London Road, Holmes Chapel, CW4 7AL. The format is the same as usual, come into the bar, grab yourself a drink and then join us in the Vault at the back of the bar. The building used to be the old Nat West (until the branch closed - like everywhere!).
If you’d like to join us, you can order your ticket here - it would be great to have you with us.
See you there! Or if not, see you next issue
Take care, as always
Una x
Thanks so much Gail. I didn't realise The Bottle Bank is part of Holmes Chapel Safe Space scheme, but I'm not surprised that they are. It's fabulous that these schemes are springing up in the smallest of areas. I'm sure Claire will be telling us more at the event.
Such a great topic. You could also point out that the Bottle Bank is part of the Holmes Chapel Safe Space scheme that is there for anyone who feels vulnerable or needs help when they are out and about in the village. I helped to launch it along with the Holmes Chapel Partnership last year. There's more information here: https://www.hcpartnership.org.uk/safe-spaces. Hope that helps!
