HOLIDAYYYY!
Hello there, 45 Not Out’ers
I hope you are all well?
So, it’s June now and the holiday season has started in earnest. And I include myself in that. I leave for 2 weeks in the sun very early on Sunday morning. And, with the first half of the year I’ve had, I can’t wait!
But, regardless of the type of year I’ve had up until the time I go on holiday each year, I always use it as a period of reset and reflection. And not just rest, but planning for the rest of the year, too.
That involves thinking about what I want to achieve both personally and professionally when I return from holiday. And being the individual I am (a bit of an alpha-type personality) I could go overboard on this and let my thoughts dominate my holiday. But, over the years I’ve realised just how taxing that is and that by trying to do too much, I undermine my efforts by being exhausted.
So, I limit myself to three goals each (professionally and personally) for the remaining part of the year. In my case, it will be the second 6 months of the year - which is a good timeline to work with.
Hopefully, I’ll be flying off this coming Sunday morning with an empty head with just a book or a glossy magazine to dominate my thoughts. I’m not going to think about what happens after the holiday, I’m just going to take the holiday as it comes and do what I want to do. Which, for me, will be a lot of sea swimming and seeing if I can get over my fear of seaweed! I know, it’s a bit of a lame fear, but it’s one that I’ve had since childhood. And I know, that when I am swimming, or sat at a bar at sunset drinking an Aperol Spritz, these little thoughts about what I want to do or what I need to do to achieve will just appear in my head, without any direction from me.
And, I’ll acknowledge them and possibly make a note in my phone if it’s something I need to record, and then carry on with whatever I was doing.
Am I right in thinking this just isn’t me? That we get our best ideas (light bulb moments, I suppose) when we’re doing something unrelated? I’ve had many a good idea when I’m in the shower! But, I understand this is a common phenomenon that ideas come in the shower or walking the dog etc?
If you have, I’d love to hear about them. And especially so if your idea has really enhanced your life.
So that’s it from me for now. I hope you’ll excuse the brevity. If you’re off on holiday soon, I hope you have the most wonderful time with a rest and a reset.
So, until the next issue, look after yourselves
Take care
