HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!! Issue #28
Because we're still standing after all this time. (To quote Sir Elton John! :)
Hi There, gorgeous readers!
How are you all? Well, I hope and enjoying the longer days and the promise of a summer we deserve, after the last two years
So, if you’ve been around since Day 1 (and if you have, thank you so much from me) you will note that we’ve reached our first birthday. Who knew? When I tentatively published the 45NotOut newsletter in the brave hope that there might be a few awesome women out there who might think like I do and share the same experiences, I had no idea what fab, fab women I’d “meet” in the process.
So several issues on and a plethora of “mindless musings” from me, here we are. A ton of fab women signed up for the newsletter who continue to subscribe for free and read each fortnight and who stay loyal and supportive.
And it means the world, so thank you from me. I did say in the last issue that I’d have an announcement to make, and I have further into the newsletter, but for now, I thought it might be good to outline some of things I’ve learnt since starting the newsletter.
So here we go…
The ageism and gender prejudice I’ve experienced since setting up my business in my 50’s some years ago, is not just restricted to mid-life women who launch businesses. Even very experienced and established women in corporate life experience the misogyny and age prejudice that I experienced as a 50-something woman trying to launch a business. In some cases, far more prejudiced than you could ever imagine.
There are fab, fab women in all walks of life. One of the absolute blessings of launching the newsletter is to discover these amazing women and to hear their brave and inspiring stories. I am in awe…
Although slight, over the 12 months I’ve been producing the newsletter, I have seen a very small sea-change into the acceptance of older women. It’s been lead by social media platforms (in particular Twitter) and there are those who are shouting slightly more loudly than I do about how mid-life women deserve to be treated compared with how they are treated in reality. It’s absolute tiny baby-steps, for sure, but it’s hoped these small embers of change alight into one huge bonfire of revolution. Watch this space…
ALL CHANGE…
I mentioned in the last issue that there would be some changes for the newsletter each fortnight. So here’s what I’m planning to do from now on.
I’ve produced the newsletter religiously each fortnight with subjects and issues that hopefully resonate with women of our age (45 upwards). This is my absolute passion project, and I’ve done it fortnight in and fortnight out for the past year with no payment. It’s been a complete labour of love.
To try and alleviate that and develop my offering further, from next issue onwards, I’ll be changing the format.
I’ll still be issuing a fortnightly issue for free, but this will be shorter and more concise. And, if this is your preference, you don’t need to do anything at all. But I’ll also be offering a paid subscription that will be issued in between the two fortnightly issues, whereby members who sign up for the paid version ($7 dollars - equivalent to around £5.50 each month) receive an extra issue that is more in-depth gleaning the best of the news from the net that is of importance to women of our age. Basically what we need to know now.
Producing the newsletter for over a year now has provided me with skills and knowledge to glean the stories that matter along with my own musings on life for women of our age.
So, if you’re of a mind that you’d like to receive a paid for issue and support my work, then you can sign up here:
By no means is this mandatory, but if you feel you’d like to subscribe and to receive an extra issue, then please go ahead. And know that you’re helping to keeping the work going
DOLLOP OF POSITIVITY
So, for my last Dollop Of Positivity for the free version (this will be moving to the paid for version from next time) here’s a fabulous list of things to give up to help generate more happiness. I hope there’s something in there to help you at whatever stage you’re at currently. Enjoy…
So that’s the last of the original format from me and, as ever, I hope you find something in there that resonates with you. I’ll leave it with you for you to decide if you wish to contribute, and I fully understand that under the current economic climate that there will be those who don’t wish to take on any more financial commitments. I stand with you, but for those who can and who wish to, I’m eternally grateful and I’ll ensure I provide you with value for money.
So till next time, in what ever format, I’ll see you then.
Take care
Una x
