Hello There, my gorgeous readers
I hope this newsletter finds you well and happy.
And, like everybody in the UK right now, waiting for the summer to arrive.
Sorry to rub it in, but I’m still on holiday in Biarritz, South West France until this coming weekend. Although we’ve had a couple of dull days with an absolute torrent of rain last Friday, it has been sunny, South of France weather in the main.
And, from last Wednesday until Sunday just gone, my holiday has been a little different than you would expect. The reason why we chose Biarritz now, was to catch an international motorbike festival that my husband (who I’m on holiday with) has wanted to come to for years.
He is a bit of a biker, and now he’s semi-retired, he has more time (and money) to spend on his prized possession of a custom-built motorbike. A Yamaha “bobber” - if you’re interested.
So, from Wednesday to Sunday each day, after breakfast at our gorgeous Air Bnb, we schlepped the 30 minute walk each day to the showground where the festival was held and mingled with bikers from across Western Europe.
And, although it was the husband’s dream to actually go, I rather enjoyed myself too. Apart from the usual stalls selling all manner of motorbike related goods - think vintage garage signs and leather biking gear - there were two stages showing the best of French (and the odd American) musical bands - a bit like BBC Introducing that showcases up and coming bands.
And then there was the people watching. Which for me was a total delight. I saw outfits and characters I would never, ever see in my little corner of the world and I was enthralled. Creativity at it’s best.
And now the festival has finished and we still have a week left of our holiday, what are we doing?
Well, realising that our total focus for much of the first week had been all things motorbikes (you may have guessed - I’m not into bikes as much as the husband) the choice of what we do has been mine. Graciously offered by the husband
So, seeing we’re in Biarritz with a choice of at least 3 beautiful beaches, we’re spending the rest of the time On The Beach - to quote that lovely Chris Rhea song from years ago.
Luckily the weather is playing ball (mostly) and Biarritz is very much a town built around its beach life and, with breakers to rival the surf in California, it has a thriving surfing community too.
And I couldn’t be happier. And the husband knows full well that being on a beach is my happy place.
So, there you go - give and take (I hope) in a what has been quite a long term relationship.
Do you agree with me? Would you have gone to the festival like I did, or would you have refused, given it wasn’t really your interest?
I suppose it’s very much a personal decision, but I’d love to know what you think and how you would have handled it.
If you have any thoughts, just reply to this newsletter and it will find me.
Sending love to you and yours, as always
Take care
Una x
