CHOOSING WHAT WE SAY ABOUT OURSELVES...
Even down to choosing your password....read on for more details
Hello there sassy ladies!
So, November’s here and Christmas is staring us right in the face. But, I’m refusing to cross that step just now. I’m trying to make the most of Autumn. What about you?
In this edition I want to tell you about a recent action I took and how I think it will impact on how I think about myself.
I changed my generic password.
If you’re anything like me you have a password you use for everything. I know that’s dangerous and we’re told not to do it, but it makes life so much easier.
I’ve had the same password since I first started working for myself in 2014. I’m not going to tell you what it is, but it was connected with how I wanted to consider myself at that point in time - a job role I wanted to aspire to.
Well, quite quickly I achieved that role and enjoyed a career working in that role for many years. I’d achieved what I wanted to when I first set the password. Thing is, I’m still using that password. And it really doesn’t reflect where I want to be now. Far from it.
So, I’ve got myself a new password and have started using that one. This will only be for any new accounts I set up now, but I expect over time the new password will supersede the original one. And I hope in time, I will achieve the position that my new password reflects.
At this point, you may be asking yourself - why on earth is she talking about why passwords reflect how you think about yourself? Let me explain….
The old password I set reflected where I wanted to be in 2014 and a goal I’d set myself. It was just to be a freelancer when at the time this goal seemed impossible. On jumping into freelancing and working my way through it, I achieved that goal quite easily and held that position for many years. Now, I have two businesses - my 45 Not Out brand and a marketing/copywriter business - so I’m so much more than just a freelancer.
So, I’ve recently changed my password to reflect that. I’ve chosen a phrase that represents where I’d like to be career wise. And, if you think about how many times a day you use your password, then it must have some effect on how you think about yourself. I’d like to think by typing this phrase into various different programmes, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy; manifesting; law of attraction - call it what you will.
Do you see my train of thought now? I hope so.
And it isn’t just passwords that I’m changing to change my self image. I’m gradually updating the photo of me I use on my various online profiles - Linked In, Google, Facebook etc. I’ve found one that I hope makes me look more professional and experienced. But hopefully approachable too. This is the one I’m now using - what do you think?
So, that’s it for another issue. I hope you managed to follow my ramblings! And if you have any comments, I’d love to hear them. Just reply to this email and I will receive them.
Meanwhile, stay safe, warm & well.
Till the next issue
